About Joseph

Joseph is certified by the Law Society of Upper Canada as a specialist in Civil Litigation. He practices primarily in the Superior Court of Justice, the Ontario Divisional Court, and the Court of Appeal for Ontario. He has been involved in several high profile cases which have had a significant impact on the development of jurisprudence in the Province of Ontario. He has also acted as counsel for the Ontario Trial Lawyers Association as an Intervenor on several appeals involving questions of law which may have wide-ranging impacts. His cases have been reported widely in the Law Times, The Lawyers’ Weekly, and both national and local newspapers.

He has been recognized as one of Canada’s Best Lawyers for years running since 2015 and received Lawyer of the Year Awards from Best Lawyers in 2015, 2018, and again, more recently, in August of 2023. These are peer-based awards which rely on feedback from members of the profession.

Joseph was also honoured in Toronto on April 20, 2023, by the Ontario Trial Lawyers Association with the H. Bruce T. Hillyer Award, awarded to an individual who exemplifies the spirit of OTLA in fearlessly advancing the cause of individual rights by the effective use of trial advocacy.

In 2020, following the pandemic, he was invited to serve as a member of the Civil Working Group, organized by the Chief Justice of Ontario, to assist the judiciary in adjusting to a new age of digital and virtual proceedings, as well as implementation of protocols to ensure that the courts continue to serve the interests of the public through challenging times.

In addition to his extensive experience before the courts, Joseph has been invited to speak at numerous conferences sponsored by the Law Society of Upper Canada, the County of Carleton Law Association, the Advocates’ Society, the Ontario Trial Lawyers Association, and others. His papers have been distributed as part of the educational materials provided at these conferences and published in the Law Society’s Special Lectures and the Advocates’ Quarterly. He also served as a member of the Civil Litigation Committee of the County of Carleton Law Association for nearly twenty years.

Joseph’s outstanding contribution as an advocate in the Superior Court of Justice and the Court of Appeal for Ontario earned him the Regional Senior Justice Award in 2004. He was the award’s inaugural recipient.
